Message From the Vice Provost

Dear colleagues,

As part of our ongoing efforts to enhance IT support, we are merging Academic & Student Affairs Information Services and Health Sciences’ IT Shared Services effective July 1. The merged group will retain the name Academic & Student Affairs Information Services and will provide IT support for teams throughout ASA, Health Sciences’ clients, and other UW campus units.

Marcus Hirsch will lead the group as director and will report to me. Page Bonifaci, manager of the development team, and Will Stroud, manager of systems administration, will report to Marcus.

The group provides desktop support; system and server administration; database administration; development of custom web applications and forms; website design, creation and content management; and IT consultation to improve efficiencies and workflow.

The merger allows ASA-IS to reduce duplication and streamline functions and service delivery by using existing resources. Through cross-training and better coverage, the workload can be spread across the ASA-IS team.

In addition to providing IT support for Enrollment Management, Academic Technologies, the Center for Teaching & Learning, Strategic Initiatives, and the Privacy Office, ASA-IS will serve Health Sciences clients, such as Biomedical Informatics and Medical Education, Academic Services and Facilities, and the Department of Biological Structure. ASA-IS also will serve other campus departments, including the Office of Planning and Budgeting and Internal Audit.

For more information on ASA-IS, the team and how they can support your work, please visit the ASA-IS website. Feel free to forward this to your staff, as appropriate. I look forward to seeing how this central support model evolves, and to getting your feedback on how it can better support your work.

Best,

Philip J. Reid
Vice Provost for Academic and Student Affairs
